Curatorial Discussion: 45 minutes
Objects available for viewing and discussion by the AKMP curatorial staff include toys, dolls, silver, needlework, and firearms as well as objects that reflect a particular period or event in Philadelphia history such as the Guilded Age, women's history, the Civil War.
Fee: $250 minimum, in addition to the guided tour fee for each individual.
Maximum group size: flexible depending upon arrangements.
Programs for College and University Classes
At AKMP college and university classes have the opportunity to learn about the
opportunities and challenges of working in a history museum. Senior staff have
successful experience in all aspects of museum administration, collection
development and management, and interpretive programming including exhibitions
and education. These presentations are ideal for classes in public history and
museum studies. In addition, collection staff are prepeared to work with faculty
in developing object based discussions related to specific aspects of Philadelphia
history.
Museum administration topics include:
- Challenges and opportunities of administering small and medium-sized history
museums,
including redefining mission, sustainability, and constituent
development.
- Challenges and opportunities for historians
working in a city history museum.
- Current issues impacting curatorial decisions
and collection management.
- Creating interpretive approaches for exhibitions and programs that use the
collections and resonate with contemporary life.
- Making a career in the history museum field.

Fee: Each program has a fee based upon the activity.
Length of Presentation: 1.5 hours including question and answer time.
Location: These presentations are available on or off site. There is no travel fee for
presentations within a ten mile radius of the museum. Beyond ten miles, there is an
additional fee.

Philadelphia from the
1880s through the early 1900s.
- Made in Philadelphia: Objects made by Philadelphia craftsmen in the
18th century.
- Home Front Philadelphia during the Civil War
and World Wars I and II.
- Highlights of the Philadelphia City History
Collection.
- Capital City the Athens of America:
Philadelphia in the 1790s.
- A Mixed Multitude: Profile of Philadelphia's People 1682-2006.
Availability: Monday-Wednesday 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and Wednesday-Friday 3:00 p.m.-
5:00 p.m. Other days and times by special arrangement.
