WILLIAM PENN'S WELCOME WEEK
MEDIA RELEASE
WILLIAM PENN CELEBRATED BY NEW HISTORY COLABORATIVE

October 5, 2006 -Philadelphia

Visionary, religious libertarian and equal rights advocate, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia founder and master planner William Penn will be celebrated in a week-long program coordinated by eight Philadelphia region museums and attractions. From November 8-12, 2006 residents and visitors can discover and enjoy rarely-seen objects, artifacts and documents that reveal the life and times of William Penn.

From Penn's shaving equipment to the only lifetime portrait of Penn, special exhibitions, family activities, displays, lectures and programs will entertain and delight adults and children at each of the collaborating attractions:

  • American Swedish Historical Museum
  • Arch Street Meeting House
  • Atwater Kent Museum of Philadelphia
  • Christ Church
  • City Hall Tours
  • Historical Society of Pennsylvania
  • Pennsbury Manor
  • Stenton

Each organization provides a different and intimate view of William Penn, his home, his friends, his religious tolerance and his civic interest.

Visitors will be able to purchase a Welcome Week Passport either online or at most of the participating attractions. The $10 Adult Passport provides reduced admission to all of the five regularly ticketed attractions, a savings of $11 per Passport. Children's tickets are only $5. Two religious organizations depend on donations, and Welcome Week events at two venues will be free. Passports may be used throughout the Week of special activities.

Through the help of the Independence Historical Association, Passports and program schedules can be printed from the www.ushistory.org website beginning October XX.
